Diamond Passing
- Set up a diamond shape of cones, with 4/5 players per diamond
- Having players pass clockwise around the diamond, staying at their position on their toes the entire time
- After a few minutes, switch direction and pass counter-clockwise
- Have players focus on being on their toes ready to receive a ball at any time by being alert
PROGRESSION 1
- Using the same set up as first drill, now add a fifth player into the group
- Have players follow their pass and move to the next cone after each pass
- Switch directions frequently if players can handle doing so
PROGRESSION 2
- Using the same set up as the last drill, create a box with cones down near one of the corner flags
- Add a 6th player to the group near the touch line as well as a goalkeeper
- Have players passing around the diamond, following their pass while switching directions frequently
- After a few goes around the diamond, coach signals for a player to make a pass back to coach (blue), who plays a ball out to Player 6 (red)
- Player 6 then drives with the ball down the touchline, into the boxed area to make a cross into the penalty area for the group to run onto (green) and finish
PROGRESSION 3
- Use the same set up and process as previous drill, while adding two small goals on each side by midfield
- Add 2-3 defenders into the box who can score on either of the new goals by defending the cross and dribbling/passing into the goal
