DISTRIBUTION, CROSS AND SHOT DRILL
DISTRIBUTION, CROSS AND SHOT DRILL

Organization:
One goalkeeper in the goal, coach on the side of the box for the high ball/cross , other goalkeeper on top of the 18 yard line to pass and shoot. The goalkeeper asks for the ball from player 1 at the top of the box then receives the pass, opens up and passes the ball to the pug goal or gate on the opposite side. After the pass, the goalie immediately goes to the center of the goal to deal with a shot from server 1 who dribbles to position 2 for a shot. The goalkeeper rolls the ball back to the shooter and quickly finds the right position to deal with the high ball from the coach. After catching the high ball, distribute the ball into one of the two small goals.
Recognize the path of the cross before moving. FIRST STEP SHOULD BE HALF A STEP BACKWARDS THEN FORWARD TO THE BALL!!! Want to be able to read the flight of the ball and its easier to attack it forwards then have to move backwards!!!
Rotate goalies through after 4 reps then switch sides.
Goal:
Improvement on catching crosses, distribution, passing and receiving, dealing with shots and communication.
Coaching Points:
Catching High Balls:
-
Recognize the flight of the ball.
-
Keep your eyes on the ball.
-
When the ball comes from the left, bring up the right knee. When the ball comes from the right, bring up the left knee.
-
Reach out for the ball and catch the ball at the highest point. Stretch out arms.
-
On catch, hands behind the ball not directly underneath, fingertips on top of the ball.
-
Look to distribute the ball quickly if possible
Dealing with Shots:
-
Move into the correct spot; in front of the goal and on the imaginary line that runs from the center of the goal to the ball through gk nose.
-
Get into the correct stance at the moment of the shot and react with the proper movement, front smother/dive
Communication:
-
Call out 'KEEPER' when going for the cross and high ball
Distribution:
-
Opening up; when receiving the ball from the left, receive with the right foot and open up. When receiving the ball from the right, receive with the left foot. Let the ball roll across your body. Pass with the left or right foot.
-
Rolling the ball: Make the last step big, tuck the ball in wrist and bring hand and ball far back and step forward with opposite foot. When releasing the ball, the hand should almost touch the ground. Keep the roll flat, no bounces. After the release the hand should point to the target.
-
Passing the ball: Pass the ball with the inside or top of the foot into the small goal. When passing through the air, get the foot under the ball. When passing over the ground pass the ball in the heart. Plant standing foot into the right position next or behind the ball.
-
Throwing the ball: Tuck the ball in the wrist, bring your arm backwards and step forward with the opposite foot. Bring stretched arm forward, do not bend elbow, but keep arm straight. Don't throw the ball like in baseball. Release the ball at the right moment: keep the ball fairly straight, no big loop through the air. Finish throw with throwing hand pointing at the target.
Positioning:
-
The position of the goalkeeper always depends on the position of the ball and the opponent.
-
The goalkeeper should always try to be positioned on the imaginary line that runs from the center of the goal to the ball. When the ball moves, the goalie moves, but always keeping that imaginary line between their feet through their nose.
-
Adjust the position quickly about a step or two off the line
-
