GK Agility, Footwork, Technique #3

Organization:
Area: Penalty Area
Set up a row of cones, about two feet apart. One goalkeeper starts next to the cones. The coach and second goalkeeper (or feeder) stand about eight yards away from the row of cones. The goalkeeper deals with the pass from the coach, passes or rolls the ball back and performs a variety of agility movements over and around the cones and receives a second pass from the other goalkeeper. The goalkeeper repeats this several times, before switching with the other goalkeeper.
Goal: Improve footwork speed, agility, movement efficiency, coordination, ability to change direction, stamina and overall athleticism. Improve basic goalkeeping skills, such as passing and receiving (both feet), distribution, catching, falling and diving.
Movements:
Use a variety of agility drills, such as side-to-side shuffle, fast feet, sideways fast feet, hopscotch, One hop In and Out, 2-In, 1-Out, and so forth.
Focus Points:
-
Proper execution of all agility drills. Don't go too fast; first learn the steps, then go faster.
-
Always use arms, 'hands go from pocket to ear', to improve coordination between arms and legs, what will improve speed.
-
Proper execution of technical soccer and goalkeeping skills.
Variations:
-
The goalkeeper receives the ball with one foot and passes it back with the other.
-
The goalkeeper makes a one touch pass back.
-
The goalkeeper picks up the ball from the ground and rolls or throws it back to the coach.
-
The coach volleys the ball to the goalkeeper for an overhand catch.
-
The coach passes the ball on the ground or higher next to the goalkeeper. The GK has to make a save before rolling/throwing the ball back.
-
Switch up the actions the goalkeeper has to make in one set. 1. pass the ball back, 2. catch a volley to the face, 3. make a falling save, 4. dela with a hard shot straight on the ground.
