GK Agility, Footwork, Falling #2

Organization:
Area: Penalty Area
Set up a row of cones, about two feet apart. Place two poles at end of row of cones, about 5 yards apart. The goalkeepers start behind the cones; the coach stands at the 18-yard line or closer, several yards to the left or right. The goalkeeper performs a variety of agility movements over and around the cones and quickly moves around a post. As soon as the goalkeeper goes past the pole, the coach passes the ball next to the goalkeeper. The goalkeeper has to make a falling/diving save. After several turns, the coach plays balls in from the other side.
After dealing with the ball, the goalkeeper returns to the starting point. The next goalkeeper starts.
Goal: Improve footwork speed, agility, movement efficiency, coordination, ability to change direction, stamina and overall athleticism. Improve making falling and diving saves.
Movements:
Use a variety of agility drills, such as side-to-side shuffle, fast feet, sideways fast feet, hopscotch, One hop In and Out, 2-In, 1-Out, and so forth.
Focus Points:
-
Proper execution of all agility drills. Don't go too fast; first learn the steps, then go faster.
-
Always use arms, 'hands go from pocket to ear', to improve coordination between arms and legs, what will improve speed.
-
Proper execution of technical soccer and goalkeeping skills; falling and diving saves.
-
Improve distribution skills.
Variations:
-
The coach plays the ball off the ground.
-
The coach throws the ball further and higher and the goalkeeper has to make a diving save.
-
The goalkeeper starts the activity with distributing the ball to the coach. Roll, throw, or pass the ball to the coach. When passing, pass over the ground or through the air in the hands of the coach.
