High Press Meets Possession Defense
High Press Meets Possession Defense

Coach, like a goalie, throws ball into one of three backs. Mids wait at buildout line until coach releases the ball. Backs must pass the ball three times before attempting to score on either small goal. During passes, mids must press backs, but delay, not able to take the ball accept by stealing a pass. After third pass, mids press to take away ball and score. Backs are essentially playing a game of rondo while moving the ball up the field. Mids should take turns pressing and supporting: center mid presses center back as they move right, right mid supports. Right mid presses right back after receiving pass and center mid moves into support. Always communicate to call teammate into support so press does not fall apart. Outside mid goes in to close down space, center mid comes in at angle to force ball to sideline and outside mid.
