U6 Practice Session - 5 Fun Games
This practice session is geared for younger age levels like U6 or U8. It is a 70 minute practice plan that consists of 5 fun games that the players will love. The goal for this practice session is to let the players have fun while having them work on athletic movements and basic kicking motions just throught the basic nature of the games. The outline for the practice is the following:
- Back and Forth Race (15 minutes)
- Dodgeball (15 minutes)
- Cross-Fire without Balls (10 minutes)
- Cross-Fire with Balls (10 minutes)
- Who can get the ball first (10 minutes)
Back and Forth Race
Set Up:
For this soccer drill players will be able to work on passing and conditioning. Teams line up on the two end lines with four players on each side. Coaches can put as many soccer balls as they would like on each side. Players race to the balls, pass them over to the other side and run back to their end line. They will go back and forth until all the soccer balls are on the other side. Coaches can set a time limit for each game and whoever has more soccer balls on their side when time expires is the loser.
Dodgeball
Set Up:
The players are split into two groups. One group plays on the inside, and the other on the outside. The half of the players on the outside start with a ball. The object of the drill is to hit the players on the inside with a pass BELOW THE KNEES. When a player is hit, he switches places with the player on the outside. The players on the outside without a ball are constantly looking to track down passes that might miss the target and go out of the circle.
Cross Fire Without Balls
Set Up:
Play this game with three teams of three. The players on one team run across the field as the other two teams on the outside attempt to hit either the player with passes made on the ground. Players cannot be hit with passes made above the knee. The runners may stop or change direction, but they may not run backwards. When a player is hit, he must sit out the rest of the game. The game is over when all of the players have been hit. The team that stays in the middle the longest wins.
Cross Fire With Balls
Set Up:
Play this game with three teams of three. The players on one team dribble their ball across the field as the other two teams on the outside attempt to hit either the player or his ball with passes made on the ground. Players cannot be hit with passes made above the knee. The dribblers may stop their ball or change direction, but they may not dribble backwards. When a player is hit, he must sit out the rest of the game. The game is over when all of the players have been hit. The team that stays in the middle the longest wins.
Who can get the ball first
Set Up:
Two teams are set up in opposite corners of the samll field. Small goals are placed on opposite end lines. The begin the game, the Feeder plays the ball out into the center of the field, and the players release from the corners with his first touch. From there, the players try to win the ball and beat their opponent 1 v 1. Play continues until a goal is scored or the ball has been played off the field. teams keep score during the game, and games are played to three goals.
