Organization:  

Area: 15y x 15y

Two players stand across from each other in the center of the grid. One is the cat, the other is the dog. When the coach yells out CAT, that player tries to tag the dog before the dog can run to the end line. When the coach yells out DOG, that player tries to tag the cat before the cat reaches the endline. Switch partners after several turns.

Variation: Make the grid longer.

Organization:

Area: 20y x 15y 

Set up two small goals on the end line. The teams start between the goals along with the Feeder. The Feeder plays the ball onto the field to start each 1v1. The player who wins the ball must first dribble over the end line before turning and attacking the small goals. Rotate opponents after several turns.

Variation: Defenders attack the goals after winning the ball.

Game: Players keep track of their goals. Keep team scores.

Focus Points:

• Quick reaction from the players when the coach passes the ball onto the field. 

Attacking

• Dribbling technique. Keep the ball close and shield the ball. 
• Feel where the defender is and either turn to the left or right. Bring up inside arm when turning to shield off the defender. 
• Go around the defender and explode. 
• Change direction and go to other goal. 
• Score as quickly as possible. 

Defending

• Immediate pressure on the ball.

When benig behind the attacker: 

• Bend knees and sit low behind the attacker. 
• Keep arm's length and when the attacker turns try to step in between the body and the ball, without making a foul. 

When facing the attacker:

• Bend knees and stand in angle. Don't face the attacker straight on.  
• Attack the ball at the right moment, without make a foul. 
• Explode away after winning the ball. 

Transition Defending to Attacking:

• Immediate reaction after winning the ball: attack!

• Try to score quickly.

Transition Attacking to Defending:

• Immediate reaction after losing the ball.

• Don’t stop defending.

• Reaction!

Set Up:

• Make two lines on each side of field and place two small goals on both end lines.
• One player line starts by passing across the field to an opposing player. The first player from each line comes out to play 2v2. 
• If a goal is scored or ball goes out of bounds, the players return to their lines. The next ball is played in with four new players.
• Get game moving fast. As soon as ball goes out, next players need to be ready to go.

Coaching Points:

• With 2v2, it is very important to make the 1st defender commit to the person with the ball by dribbling. Doing this attracts attention of the other defender, and allows more space and time for the other attacker to be dangerous.
• Communication and creativity. Your first thought shouldn’t be to pass. Can you shoot? Can you dribble?
• Introduce combinations to your players. If you pass to your teammate, can you move on the field in a way to make things unpredictable for the defenders?

Organization:

The two teams try to score on the small goals in the corners. When the ball is out of bounds, players dribble or pass the ball back in.

Game: Keep track of the score.

Focus Points:

Passing forward.

Receiving forward.

Make the field big when your team has the ball.

Make the field small when the opponent has the ball.

Organization:

Area: 40y x 25y 

Both teams play in a 2-1-2 formation. When the ball is out of bounds, restart with the dribble or a pass.

Game: Keep track of the score.

Focus Points:

Technical

• Passing and receiving skills.

• Opening Up .

• Dribbling skills.

• 1v1 skills, attacking and defending. 

Attacking - Own Team in Ball Possession

Goal: Build up, create scoring chances and score goals. 

• Make the field large and create space in depth and width. 

• Look to play the ball deep; go forward.

• Keep ball possession.

• Maintain a good team shape / formation.

Defending - Opponent in Ball Possession

Goal: Disrupt the buildup, win the ball back, avoid goals against.

• The whole team makes the field small by moving towards the ball (High Pressure), form a block around the halfway line (medium pressure), or drops towards their own goal (Low Pressure). Shift and slide towards the sideline. 

• Pressure the player on the ball.

• Mark tight in the area of the ball.

• Positional or zonal marking further away from the ball. 

• Stay active as long as possible. Back pressure) 

Transition Attacking to Defending:

• Win ball back as quickly as possible - 5 Second Rule.

• Protect your own goal quickly.

• Be organized defensively while attacking. 

Transition Defending to Attacking:  

• Quick goal-oriented action. Try to create a scoring chance as quickly as possible -10 Second Rule. 

• Explode and connect the first pass after winning the ball. Reaction.

• While the other team is in ball possession, certain players should anticipate the possibility of a turnover and to ATTACK.
