Protect Your Goal #1 - U12
All For One - Dribbling Game

Set Up:
Mark off a square field that is about 15 yards by 15 yards. Each player will start with a soccer ball. On the whistle, the players have to dribble within the field and keep their ball under control while trying to knock out the other players' soccer ball. When a player has their ball kicked off the field, they have to leave the game. The last player to keep possession of their ball wins that round.
1v1 to Small Goals

Set Up:
The players start in opposite corners of the field, diagonally across from each other. A small goal is set up in both corners. The defending team starts with the soccer balls. The game begins with a pass across the field from the defender to the attacker. The attacker takes on the defender 1 v 1. if the defender wins the ball, he tries to score in the other goal. After 3-5 minutes, the balls are switched over to the other team and the players switch roles. Teams keep a running tally of the goals they score.
Coaching Points:
1. The attacker's first touch should make the defender move in that direction.
2. Attack the defender at speed and get him back on his heels.
3. It may take two or three dribbling/feinting moves to beat a good defender.
Progressions:
1. Progress to 2 v 2.
Direct 2v2s

Set Up:
- Make two lines on each side of field and place two small goals on both end lines.
- One player line starts by passing across the field to an opposing player. The first player from each line comes out to play 2v2.
- If a goal is scored or ball goes out of bounds, the players return to their lines. The next ball is played in with four new players.
- Get game moving fast. As soon as ball goes out, next players need to be ready to go.
Coaching Points:
- With 2v2, it is very important to make the 1st defender commit to the person with the ball by dribbling. Doing this attracts attention of the other defender, and allows more space and time for the other attacker to be dangerous.
- Communication and creativity. Your first thought shouldn’t be to pass. Can you shoot? Can you dribble?
- Introduce combinations to your players. If you pass to your teammate, can you move on the field in a way to make things unpredictable for the defenders?
