Set Up:
Eight players are set up in the attacking third, playing 4v2 in the small grid outside of the penalty area. The attackers play keep away and look for the thru pass between the two defenders. After the thru pass is made, the attacker on the edge of the box is sent to goal (with a free pass) to finish versus the goalkeeper. If a defender wins the ball during the drill, he switches out with the attacker who lost it. After a thru pass and the shot on goal, the two defenders switch out.
Coaching Points:
1. Eliminate extra touches and always be prepared to play a one touch pass.
2. Fake the thru pass when the passing lane closes down and make a different choice.
3. Use feints to get the defender out of position, and then look for the thru pass.
Progressions:
1. Add a defender in the six yard box.
