Set Up:

Part One: Groups of three pass the ball across the field, requiring the player in the center to receive and turn in each sequence. Three Rovers move around the entire field, looking to pressure the central players. A variety of turning moves can be practiced during the drill, with or without pressure.

Part Two: The groups continue to use the central player to move the ball, but he must receive at the first cone, dribble to the second cone, then pass. The Rovers continue to pressure in the same manner.

Coaching Points:

1   Receiving – Go to the ball and take your first touch away from the defender.

2   Communication –  Before the player receives, the passer calls out “Turn!” or “Man on!”

3   Shielding – Get sideways on to the defender and make contact first.

Progressions:

1 – Outside players can make long passes to each other when a Rover takes away the short pass.
