Standard 3-2-3 formation for 9v9. Building out of the back, 3 defenders, 2 center mids and 3 attackers. This formation encourages building through the middle of the field.
Defenders: Must work together and learn to move as a unit. The Center back should be vocal in helping the outside backs with positioning, while also supporting to defend in 1v2 situations. Outside backs are encouraged to dribble out of the back towards the wingers and then distribute the ball forward or to the accompanying center Mid.
Midfielders: The 2 CM's must work together and communicate. If one move forward the other must read and react on how to support. Move forward and call for the ball, stay square for support, or drop back as another support option.
Wingers: The wingers are running up and down the pitch, both supporting on defense and attacking offensively. Defensively they must come back and apply pressure when needed, but also maintain space out wide in order to receive the ball from a defending teammate. Offensively they should attack the space when 1v1 and utilize the CMs and the Striker to play off of. Crosses into the box and attacking the back post from the weak side are critical.
Striker: The lone Striker must learn how to use their body to hold the ball and play off of the supporting CMs and the Wingers attacking the outside space. From there they should make diagonal runs into space to pull defenders or attack the goal.
