A) Blues attack down the right flank. 6 and 3 are open for passes but do not advance up the pitch past the ball! 3 is prepared to drop backwards if the ball is lost.

B) 2 loses the ball and blue 11 attacks the free space. 6 is drawn across to cover, but crucially 3 is ready to move centrally to replace 6

C) 6 closes down the attacker and cuts off a pass to the centre, creating space instead on the outside where it is further from goal.

D) 6 stands his ground and continues to block a pass into the danger area. 2 has recovered to help, and 3 is marking centrally. There is still something of an overlap with 8 but CM4 has recovered to mark him. The ball goes out for a throw and blue get back into position
