Set Up:

There are 10-12 players set up inside of the large grid, playing in pairs. Each pair in the grid starts with a soccer ball. One player is the defender, shadowing the other player as he dribbles and moves around the grid. The defender may not touch the ball, but tries to stay as close to the attacker as possible. After thirty seconds, the players trade places. After three minutes, the players switch partners.

Coaching Points:

1.  The defender must control the speed of his initial run and not charge the ball.

2.  The defender must get close enough to the attacker to deny passing opportunities.

3.  The decision to tackle or not depends on how well the attacker controls the dribble.

Progressions:

1.  The defenders try to knock the ball out of the grid.
