Organization:
Area: Penalty Area
Create a box of 8y x 8y with cones and four balls in front of the goal. Within the box, create a row of 5 cones, two feet apart. The coach stands with balls on one of the sides of the box, six to eight yards away. The goalkeeper faces the coach. The activity starts with the coach passing the ball into the hands of the goalkeeper. The goalkeeper returns the ball, quickly performs agility movement over and around the row of cones and attacks one of the four balls.
After four turns, the coach moves to the other side of the box and does the same activity again.
Goal: Improve footwork speed, agility, movement efficiency, coordination, ability to change direction, stamina and overall athleticism. Improve basic goalkeeping skills, attacking the ball and making falling and diving saves.
Movements:
Use a variety of agility drills, such as side-to-side shuffle, fast feet, sideways fast feet, hopscotch, One hop In and Out, 2-In, 1-Out, and so forth.
Focus Points:
-
Proper execution of all agility drills. Don't go too fast; first learn the steps, then go faster.
-
Always use arms, 'hands go from pocket to ear', to improve coordination between arms and legs, what will improve speed.
-
Stay low when taking steps towards the ball.
-
Proper execution of technical goalkeeping skills including falling and diving saves.
-
Improve distribution skills.
Variations:
-
Each cone has a color and when the coach yells out a color, the goalkeeper has to attack that ball.
-
The goalkeeper has to sprint around a cone first before attacking a ball.
