Objective:

  • Improve the ability of the attacking team to build up and create scoring chances.

  • Improve the ability of the goalkeeper to intercept a high ball from the flanks and to distribute the ball.

  • Improve the ability of the defending team to push up, and to get organized after a corner kick or cross was cleared. 

Organization:

Area: Length of ⅓ or half field, with the width of the penalty area. One large goal and two counter goals. The defenders play in a 1-3-1 formation, the attackers in 2-3 formation. The defenders plus three attackers start in the penalty area. The coach throws a high ball to the goalie. After the catch, the goalie throws the ball to one of the attacking midfielders. The defenders quickly push up and the 4v5 starts.

Coaching Points:

  • When the ball is played from the goalie to the attacking midfielders, the defenders and the goalie yell out “Up! Up! Up!”

  • The defenders quickly push up to the 18-yard line.

  • Role of 1st defender and the 2nd defender.

  • Communication.

  • Positive action after winning the ball

  • Attackers must take up proper attacking shape.  

  • Width.

  • Blitz after losing the ball.
