Here is a simple passing drill that works on some very important fundamentals of passing and receiving. It is possible to use as many progressions as you, the coach, think will benefit your players based on their ability level.
The drill is set up as shown in diagram using four players. Two of the players will be idle and just used as obstacles. The first player with the ball will step to the side of the idle player and make a pass to their partner. The player receiving this pass will receive the ball with one touch to the other side of the idle player so they can make a pass off the second touch back to their partner. Here are some progressions for how players can pass and receive the ball:
- receive the ball with the inside of the right foot and pass with the inside of the right foot
- receive the ball wth the outside of the right foor and pass with the inside of the right foot
- receive with the inside of the left foot and pass with the inside of the right foot
- receive with inside of the left foot and pass with the outside of the left foot
